p.m.

NORWICH
– The State of Emergency declared this morning
in the City of Norwich
has been lifted.

“The danger has subsided
and we are reopening the roads to normal traffic,” according to Norwich Mayor
Joseph Maiurano. “There is still the
threat of falling tree limbs and power lines so residents are encouraged to
exercise caution.”

The Norwich Emergency
Management Office offers the following tips for residents and they continue to
cleanup from the storm:

·
Downed wires are prevalent and should be
avoided.

·
Low hanging wires can be struck by large profile
vehicles.

·
Flat roofs are prone to clogged roof
drains. This heavy wet snow, added with
a clogged drain can cause roof failure.

·
Heavy snow accumulations can cause tree limbs to
snap and whole trees to fall over.

·
Road surface conditions vary and are hazardous,
travel is not advised as this interferes with snow removal efforts.

Residents are warned to take frequent breaks when
shoveling. The wet snow is very
heavy and overexertion could lead to heart problems, particularly in the
     elderly.

“The public in general heeded our warnings,”
said City Emergency Management Director A. Wesley Jones. “It was a dangerous situation and luckily no
one was injured.”
